Got back from the cinema maybe an hour ago, AND I AM STILL BURSTING AT THE SEAMS. I LOVED IT. I LOVED IT SO MUCH. What struck me most of all about it is how beautifully restrained it was. It could have been very slap-dash, but the director and the actors really took their time with it, felt their roles. Every twitch, every smile, every aborted gesture had its place. It was that very restraint that made me SOB LIKE A BABY, OKAY. I feel like I've been crying for the entire second half of the film. The cinematography was a thing of beauty, likewise the symbolism -- Tonks and Remus' hands, wow. Sev's story trufax had me crying quietly into my tissue, and when Harry yielded the Resurrection Stone in the forest I wept so hard it was a struggle to remain quiet. There were actual sobs coming out. I could barely breathe. Beautiful work. Daniel Radcliffe, WELL DONE, MATE. /tips hat/
Another thing that grabbed me was how there was something for everyone. Did you guys notice--what am I saying, OF COURSE YOU NOTICED that Harry called Draco by his first name, twice at the end when he explained about the Elder Wand? And in the Room of Requirement, when he asked Draco why he didn't give him up, the look on Draco's face, to me it was like he was thinking really, really loud "Why do you think?? I love you, you bloody idiot!" So there was Harry/Draco. There was also almost any pairing under the sun.
Dare I say it, the epilogue? The first time since I read it all those years ago that I kind of understand, and ship it. Was it just me, or was Astoria played by Emily Blunt? Because if she was -- I can kind of see it, for real. And I loved the affection she and Draco showed little Scorp. The kids were a hoot. I estimate roughly a bajillion fanfics that will come out of that film, and maybe half of them will be Next Gen. Also, after watching this I ship Ron/Hermione hardcore. There could never be another for either of them. I think that's why I love
saras_girl's portrayal of the two of them -- this is the feeling it inspires.
I myself was just blown away by the film. And yes, I now want to write ALL THE FIC. And read it, too.
altri_uccelli -- you may turn out to be right yet. I do, I want to give all of them a future, I want to fill in the missing years, I want to explain why some things happen the way they do. I don't know if I will, or if this too will fade away, but. Harry going back for Draco over the Fiendfyre, reaching for him and only him, Draco clutching at him, IDEK. My stupid sappy romantic heart wants to give everyone all the happy endings.
Anyway. Long story short, it was wonderful, and I'm totally seeing it again next week. Also, in a bizarre twist of fate, it emerged that
delicatale and me actually saw the film together -- we were both in the cinema at exactly the same time as each other, geographical distance notwithstanding. BRAIN TWINS 4EVA. We may or may not be considering a Steve/Danny HP fusion for our next collab project. WE'RE NOT ADMITTING TO ANYTHING, but if I should start babbling about it not long from now, you shan't be too surprised, I suspect.
The end of an era, but what a bang to go out on. ALL THE LOVE.

Date: 2011-07-16 05:28 am (UTC)It was a beautifully done film. So many things that had me going, 'oh, nice'. I totally need to see it again just to appreciate it fully! Gorgeously filmed and acted. A fitting tribute to the end of an era.
Also, I really need a Neville icon. :D

I think, actually, that this is one instant that the film actually did a better job than the book in getting things across to the viewer. A beautiful job all round! So visual, so cinematic, so beautiful in its starkness. There were moments when I actually stopped and thought, oh, well done (like the bit in the forest where Voldemort was about to kill Harry, where Harry was outlined in light and V was in shadow, I thought, nice). Definitely seeing it again just for those bits.

Date: 2011-07-16 05:03 pm (UTC)Ooooh, Steve/Danny HP fusion? I have to ask, how would you sort them?
In my head!canon Danny is a Hufflepuff, he's hard working, extremely loyal, and such a good egg *smishes*no subject
Date: 2011-07-17 10:29 am (UTC)WELL. Steve is obviously a Gryffindor, you know -- how could he ever be anything else? And OMG we meant to have Danny in Ravenclaw, but you make such a valid point that we're shifting him to head of Hufflepuff! :D There should be so much fun antagonism that way, too! :D He is such a good egg, bless him! <3
