Snowflake Challenge -- Day Ten, Eleven and Twelve

All right, I am going to use all this AWAKE I have found myself with after eleven hours of sleep last night to get caught up on this.

Day 10

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Part of the reason why I have fallen so behind is actually this particular challenge. Because I don't know about you, but my flist is CHOCK FULL of the best writers. So there was me, sitting in my car (actually), wondering which the hell one to pick, because fuck, [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront, [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis, [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub, [livejournal.com profile] gyzym, [livejournal.com profile] architect, [livejournal.com profile] black_betty_26, [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic, [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl, [livejournal.com profile] futureperfect, [livejournal.com profile] queenklu, [livejournal.com profile] knowmydark, [livejournal.com profile] irisbleufic, [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash, [livejournal.com profile] delicatale, [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon, [livejournal.com profile] wemyss, [livejournal.com profile] zarah5 -- I COULD GO ON AND ON AND ON. And those are just the ones on my flist. I haven't even mentioned [livejournal.com profile] pyramidine, [livejournal.com profile] la_victorienne, [livejournal.com profile] wordstrings and so forth. I HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED ALL THE ARTISTS, EITHER, LIKE [livejournal.com profile] red_rahl, [livejournal.com profile] loobeeinthesky, [livejournal.com profile] zoronoa. I honestly, HOW DO YOU CHOOSE FROM BETWEEN THOSE PEOPLE??

I can't, that's how. So. This is what I have chosen to do instead. I am going to talk to you about two of my other passions: podfics and fanmixes.

I love podfics. I love remembering words that I have read on the page when they sound in my ear, I love the intimacy of a voice in my head, I love the feelings a podfic can evoke using the music of the voicebox. I think it only adds to the beauty of a story.

Two of the amazing podficcers whose works I damn near worship are [personal profile] pandarus and [livejournal.com profile] pennyplainknits. Penny's works that I have listened to are in the Inception fandom, and FayJay's (that I listen to) are in the Sherlock BBC fandom. Penny's recording of Jizzy's I've Got Nothing To Do All Day But Smile is magic, pure and simple. The feelings she infuses this with, the depth voice acting she goes into, the makes this one to remember. I can't even tell you how many times I have listened to it. I prefer long fics' podfics, because I mostly tend to listen to them when I'm driving, or travelling, and this is perfect. She is now mostly into Bandom, and I have even downloaded a few of her pieces there even though I know absolutely nothing about the fandom, simply because she reads them.

FayJay, luckily, has more that I can listen to -- the girl is prolific. Literally every piece of hers that I have listened to is sheer perfection. Likewise, I have listened to stories I haven't read simply because it's her recording them. She has done all of Wordstrings' Paradox Series as well as a huge number of other Sherlock fanfics. I love her voice. I love her cadence. I love everything about her reading. Here is her Sherlock podfic archive -- as you can see, it is enormous, and every one of them is fantastic. <3

Now then, fanmixers! Four names for you: [livejournal.com profile] somehowunbroken, [livejournal.com profile] futureperfect, [livejournal.com profile] robanybody, [livejournal.com profile] zarah5. Not only are they incredible writers in their own right, but they also have this gift of putting together the best music to which to write. This isn't just because three out of the four of them have made fanmixes for me (two within the past week, both Clint/Phil, WHAT AM I EVEN TO DO WITH MYSELF), and I am incoherent with gratitude for them, but, basically, I write to music. Always have done, always will do. Sometimes I will play a single song on repeat until the scene I'm writing is finished. Sometimes, like when I'm writing the Domestic Regency Marriage Fluff, I will play a mix over and over and over again. And the music these guys put together is brilliant and inspiring and just, I LOVE THEIR MIXES, I REALLY DO. <333333

Day 11

In your own space, ask for recs. Something as simple as "I like XYZ (where XYZ is a kink, a pairing, a trope, etc) - please rec me some." Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Okay, I do this often enough, but for the sake of this challenge I would like to ask for: Funny fics! :D I would love all the bantering, the ridiculous-yet-in-character reactions, fics that just make you laugh until you cry. Tall order, I know, and I have a few on my list of memories I am NEVER LETTING GO, but yes. That's what I'd like. Rec me stuff that made you giggle until you couldn't breathe. <3

Day 12

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Uhhhh... Okay! I am going to use this chance to link to the posts that got me started on Arthur/Eames. I mean, I came back from watching Inception for the first time and immediately headed for my laptop to find ALLLL THE COMMS, and I remember reading this post and thinking, right, I am saving this to show EVERYBODY and drag them kicking and screaming into the fandom after me! :D

These two posts I have referred to over and over and over again, in so many fics -- y'all know my addiction to suit!porn by now, yes? These posts are what makes those fics work; they would never be as good as they are if it weren't for these amazing pieces of research. Thanks, guys. <3

And lastly, this is one of the very first fics in Inception that I memmed. It holds up just as beautifully now as it did when I first read it, a year and a half ago. Delicious.
