I have survived my first few days of twitter and tumblr immersion! \0/ \0/ *relieved face* It's so much fun, though, I'm surprised I resisted for so long. BUT IT IS SERIOUSLY TIME-EATING, which when you're doing a 12hr shift by yourself is A BLESSING, but not so much when you're actually supposed to do work and stuff. D: I was meant to be doing edits on our avengers_bang rough draft, but shocking no one, I am nowhere right now. And it's Sunday, and I need a break, so today it isn't happening either. >.>;; I'll have to do better than that. :( Tomorrow it's coffee shop + laptop time, I feel. THERE IS JUST SO MUCH PRETTY TO LOOK AT. *______* Today there has been A LOT of bookshelf porn that has made me all warm and fuzzy. There was also this:
...WHICH IS THE FIRST THING I AM BUYING FOR MY FLAT WHEN IT'S FINALLY MOVING TIME. *______________* THE ONLY THING I WILL EVER NEED, SERIOUSLY. I WANTS IT, PRECIOUS. I WOULD NEVER MOVE IF I HAD THIS IN MY LIVING ROOM. WOULDN'T NEED A BEDROOM EITHER.

Okay, things other than tumblr. Guys, I would LOVE to talk about this. There are other sci fi geeks here, aren't there? (I'm... not the only one, right? D:) This is something Fassy said (about his character) in an interview on Prometheus (not at all spoilery for the film, but just in case, )-- he is an android a la Bishop:
Admitting that David’s robotic nature is revealed early on in the film, Fassbender identified his character’s personal journey as one of a sentient android acutely aware of his otherness and, perhaps, attempting to become more human. “I thought, how much will a program program itself?,” Fassbender said. “Would he start to develop his own personality traits and ego and insecurities, all the fun human stuff?” (For anyone who would like to read all of the exerpts, they can be found here.)
So this is what I want to talk about. Take this quote, and apply it to JARVIS in the Iron Man movieverse. Apply it to JARVIS, and let's talk about how an AI decides that he wants to become more human. Because in my opinion, the JARVIS we see in the Iron Man films is fully aware of his (his, because he chooses to use a male voice in communicating with the outside world, which really is the purest form of gender identity) otherness, but he is also fully capable of recognising emotions, and in some cases rendering it -- see in re: sarcasm. And now I just want to read/write this huge epic of JARVIS evolving, and choosing how to evolve -- because as an AI he would be able to programme himself, y/y? And he is fully capable of developing a personality. And also, as an AI he is therefore sentient, and should be accorded the same rights as human beings (I don't want to go into the ethics of it, although I am positive that the discussion will be thoroughly fascinating, and I would love to talk about it, too -- I'm just not focusing on this here). Sooo... JARVIS was created by Tony, but Tony also gave it the autonomy to be its own man/woman/genderqueer person. And so this is me (my brain, really) EXPLODING OVER THE THOUGHT THAT, BASED ON HIS INTERACTION WITH TONY THAT WE ARE SHOWN, HE CAN TECHNICALLY THEREFORE BE SAID TO BE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH TONY. And since that gifset I found earlier today, MY TONY/JARVIS FEELS HAVE EXPLODED EVERYWHERE. I remember reading that fic (which BLEW MY MIND) where Steve, being the perfect human being he is, includes JARVIS in his and Tony's relationship, because he recognises that they are in love -- and they are. The fact that JARVIS is not technically a human being does not factor into the assumption -- because JARVIS is self-aware, and therefore capable of emotion.
....I just. I don't even know if any of this is even making sense, but I am just, THIS IS KILLING ME. IT IS TAKING OVER MY BRAIN AND I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. I just can't stop thinking about the fact that it is quite obvious that JARVIS and Tony care deeply about each other; they are emotionally involved, whether you want to keep that involvement to friendship or a romantic relationship of any kind. And if there are any other nerds out there (I use the term lovingly, I hope you know, because I hold a lifetime membership card to that club that people can pry from my cold dead hands) that find this issue as fascinating as I do, PLEASE COME AND TALK TO ME ABOUT IT BECAUSE I CAN'T. STOP. I HAVE TOO MANY FEELS. AGAIN. >.>;;
