I seriously find them a bit of a pain too. because i know that i've read so many and so very, very few, have made an impact on me, they've all just been fillery filler sex scenes. Plus there's always trying to balance realistic with perfection and how much awkwardness is acceptable etc.
I completely appreciate the meaning of the term knuckle down. I too, never considered it anything sketch until you used it right then xDDDD. oh what lovely britishisms.
