Well, I do not profess to be the world's biggest expert on the podficcing community... I have a friend who is super into recording podfics, but I've never listened to one in my life. I am inclined to encourage you simply for the sake of being encouraging, and also because I feel that people who like podfic would be happy to see more podfic available, and the people who write the fics are usually tickled to have their story podficced. I can't imagine anyone will be bothered with the accent.
