According to the BBC, CALIFORNIA'S PROPOSITION 8 HAS BEEN SCRAPPED!!!

Today I am proud to be a human being. This comes on the heels of Iceland making same-sex marriages legal, and their Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir promptly marrying her long-term partner Jonina Leosdottir, which I thought was fabulous. You go, girl! That's the way things should go in the world, IMHO.

In other news, I went to see Inception last night, and it has completely taken over my mind. I came out of the cinema going, ajkfgadjkl FUCKING CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, YOU FUCKING BRILLIANT BASTARD. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It is such a huge achievement. I mean, I don't even know how many layers the film has. A dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream (possibly). I just.

I want to find someone who's seen it and rant at them for hours. I literally haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I came out of the cinema. I dreamt about it all night (and how screwed up is that?). I haven't been this blown away by a film since KickAss, and even that was more fun than profound. Inception's mindboggling complexity makes Memento, The Prestige and The Matrix look like Where Is My Cow in comparison.

I have to see it again. I have a huge list with pro-dream and pro-reality theories, and I doubt I'll ever work it out for sure. Also, there is lots of slashy subtexty goodness to tease us -- the banter between Eames and Arthur is pure gold. I was sniggering and leering in places where other people in the theatre certainly weren't! XP It was A LOT of fun even as it tied my mind in knots.

Re: Prop 8... why yes indeed it has! :DDDDDD It's been happy fun party time over here in the States since yesterday... well, at least for me and all the people I associate with. I'm sure there are plenty of unhappy people, but we don't care about them.

Re: Iceland... that is way totally wicked cool! And it seems like such an Icelandic thing to happen... from what little I know about Iceland, I have a good opinion of the place.

Re: Inception... FEEL FREE TO RANT AT ME. :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD A couple of my friends and I are big Nolan-o-philes, and we've been in Inception slap-happy mode since it came out. My reaction coming out of the theater was pretty much to go YES THANK YOU YOUR NOLANNESS SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER... and then promptly text everyone I know to tell them to go see it. I've seen it twice... do see it again, it only gets better. Seriously... GUH! So good! That last scene... imo, the best final moment in a film, ever. Just for the emotional impact. Building up to it, even knowing what happens, my heart rate goes waaaayyyy up, and then I have to hold my breath... and then the top is spinning and spinning and you can't look away and you can't breathe and then BLACK and the entire theater groans/sighs in agony. I love when a movie gets the whole audience in tune like that.

...And yeah... the Eames/Arthur slashiness is a bit blatant. XD Seriously! They flirt for like, the entire movie! My roomie and I kept leaning over and whispering, "Gaaaaaaaaayyy!" at each other in the theater.

The fandom's pretty lame, so far, but the single piece of good fanfiction out there seems to be this one: Breaking Point. In case you're interested. It's Eames/Arthur, of course, and quite lovely. ...Frankly, I don't feel the need for much in the way of fanfic... the movie's kind of perfect by itself. <3 <3 <3

OH GOD THAT TOP SPINNING AND SPINNING, AND LURCHING EVERY NOW AND THEN, BUT NOT FALLING... GAH. Yes, the entire theatre groaned over here, too!

I have myriad reasons for it being all a dream, and just as many for it being real. IDK what I believe more. I like to think that it was all real, though.

Ooh, thanks for the rec! I have about 15 fics or so on my Read It Later list, I've been browsing through the fandom (because I was immediately in withdrawal as soon as I came out of the cinema, so I had to latch on to the fandom to get my hit). I've yet to read any of the stuff, but I do have about twenty icons already! XD

The slashiness was perfect! That is one of the reasons I want to see it again! The movie is pretty perfect by itself, granted, but it's nice to think all of them have a life after it. I mean, it's been two days already, so the initial ahfgjahfgsdf is gone, but I'm still disecting it in my brain. I just can't leave it alone!

GUH! I KNOW! It just haunts me, that top.

I keep going back and forth over whether it's a dream or whether it's real, and whether I want it to be a dream or want it to be real. ...My roomie made a good case for it being a dream... when he sees his children it's awfully like that dream/memory image of them he always sees. ......Really, though the whole point is that we can't know, and maybe that it doesn't even matter.

More random flailing... how much does Cillian Murphy's character break your heart in this? TT_TT Poor kid! ...Although distractingly stunningly beautiful as always, ye gods that's a pretty man! And I always love Ken Watanabe, and omg <3 Michael Caine, and Marion Cotillard is always fabulous (I need to see more of her movies), and yes I really do love Leonardo DiCaprio.... I think, though, Joseph Gordon-Levitt really steals the show. I've always loved him since 10 Things I Hate About You, and he's always been so adorable, but now... BOY IS FINE. *fans self* Always wear a vest and carry a gun, JGL. Always wear a vest and drop people off of staircases. Always. ...My roomie and I are campaigning for him to play Riddler in the next Batman flick. IT COULD HAPPEN. Nolan loves recycling actors (it's good for the environment! :D), and apparently he really liked working with JGL.... *hopes and prays and wishes*

I READ THAT STORY YOU RECC'D ME. HOLY CRAP, IT IS UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. It left me completely speechless. I've memmed it, and I'll be reading it again. Often.

I love Ken Watanabe in this. I love him in everything, but here especially. JGL -- well, I liked him in 10 things, but a grown-up JGL is... well. Um. Scorching hot is one way of saying it.

Cillian Murphy... Oh god. For some reason he reminds me of Metanoia's Kevin -- all vulnerable but kickass at the same time. The shot at the end of the film, where he's still in the first class chair, the look on his face is astounding. He is brilliant in it.

In fact, I'm thinking I'll go see it again tonight. I should be able to make it on time! /determined face

Isn't it though? I had it recc'd to me separately by two different people, that's how good it is.

Yeah, Ken Watanabe's fantastic in this. JGL... oh, JGL. *licks him all over* When did he grow up to be all sexy?! My roomie and I have been marathoning JGL for like, two weeks now. He's... a male prostitute in Mysterious Skin, which is a brilliant but FUCKED UP movie, btw, and the movie makes me very uncomfortable because even when FUCKED UP things are happening, I can't stop staring at JGL's pretty, sexy body, and it makes me feel like a BAD PERSON. TT_TT

Hahahaha, I spend much of the movie being distracted by how much Cillian Murphy's character reminds me of one of my roomie's old rp characters... androgynous beauty, a penchant for very fine suits, daddy issues... he's like an AU, much more innocent version of her boy Ren. ...But yeah, he really was brilliant in this. They all were. ...I have to say, I'm not terribly fond of Ariadne. Nothing wrong with the actress, she did a great job, but... the character is kind of obnoxious. Just how she's all, HELLO, I AM YOUR PLOT DEVICE, I DON'T KNOW YOU BUT I'M GOING TO STICK MY NOSE IN YOUR BUSINESS AND FIND OUT ALL OF YOUR SECRETS THAT YOUR CLOSEST FRIENDS DON'T EVEN KNOW AND LECTURE YOU ABOUT THEM.

Ooooooh, GO GO GO!! Enjoy!! :DDDDDDD (Careful it doesn't get sold out, that's happened to me twice now.)

I HAVE SEEN IT FOR THE SECOND TIME. IT IS STILL AWESOME.

ON SECOND VIEWING, I CAN TELL YOU -- I THINK IT'S ALL REAL.

AND I'LL TELL YOU WHY.

One, every time Cobb spins the top in the real world, it wibbles and topples. Also, you can hear it grinding on the surface. You can't hear that in the dream world.

Two, there is no slowdown of time. Time in the real world goes on as normal every time, whereas in the dream world you have at least one slowdown.

Three, the end sequence of Cobb going home -- everything is different. For example, the table is full of paper and fabrics and clothes and crayons, and there is a large bowl of fruit (bananas) where the huge orchid used to be. Also, the kids are definitely older than the ones in the dreamscape. Definitely. And Phillipa (?) is wearing a white top with a camisole-style dress, whereas in the dreamscape she wears a one-piece pink dress. James' hair is longer, and he is at least a year older than the James that was a projection.

I think it's real. Definitely. And also, Eames and Arthur are totally having/ have totally had a thing before we meet them. Both of them know where the other is, what they are doing, and they are constantly sitting next to each other and touching each other. THEY TOTALLY FANCY EACH OTHER.

... And I've just had a huge argument with my mother (there were tears) because I came home "late". I mean, I called her, said that I was at the mall and I was going to see the late showing of the film. I warned her that I was going to be late. Then I get my dad calling me, asking me where I am and when I'm coming home. So that got me annoyed to start with, since couldn't she tell him that I've spoken to her already?

I drive home and she's practically waiting at the door, saying how worried she was because it's 1 am and I'm not home yet, and I just totally blew up at her. I mean, I'm freaking just about 29, have lived in a foreign country for 9 years, and she's telling me that I never said I was going to be THIS LATE, and that I should have said more on the phone?? I mean, it's 1 am! It's not like I'm coming home at dawn! And what if I really was meeting somebody?

Argh. I am so ticked off, there's no way I'll be going to bed any time soon. Am I wrong? Do you think she has a point? I'm totally not objective AT ALL at the mo.
