If someone could please explain to me why I have spent the last THREE AND A HALF HOURS drawing Erik and Charles' Pemberley layout by hand, from scratch, using pencil and ruler and everything, I should be much obliged.

The notes for this thing have hit 1,500 words. JUST THE NOTES. The thing itself is now over 20K and we haven't even gotten our teeth into the main plotline yet.

This story is going to steal my sanity, isn't it.

Anyway, for those that are curious -- (click for bigger version) EDIT: Now amended with my Mad Photoshop Skillz TM (a.k.a. blundering blindly and hoping it'll work). The little squares are the back stairs that I can't fit in properly. Disclaimer: I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. Any architects out there, I apologise in advance. It was insanely helpful in getting my head straight, though.

EEEEEE \0/ Honestly, I can see this thing leaving 70K behind like it's a pitstop to Rome, just, jesus.

tho lol what's the difference between the drawing room (guests) and drawing room (visitors)?

...MY ATTENTION SPAN.

Trufax, I just plain forgot that I'd named the one (visitors) and the other (guests) until I was ready to scan it, and this is draft #7, okay, after approximately 4562975625 ammendments, and I was literally sick of re-drawings and corrections, so I didn't bother changing it. D: /fail

Oh man, I used to do the same thing in one particular universe I wrote in. I remember one time I slept over my college BFF's dorm and she woke up to me passed out half on the bed and floor plans scattered all over the floor. And immediately LJed about it while I was sleeping XD

But I legit do an embarrassing amount of research. I map out routes that people take, I look up prices and what time the sun rose and set on particular days and what songs were on the radio and shit like that. I remember getting really pissed off that I couldn't find the average MPG for a car in the 1960s when I was writing No Yesterdays On the Road.

SO FEAR NOT. You're not crazy! Or, if you are, so are the rest of us XD

I AM EXACTLY THE SAME. I have trufax researched sunrise/set times before, an as I'm writing this story I literally have one tab of Google opened at all times that I use to check out random stuff like rose varieties in Germany and dental hygiene in Regency England and that sort of stuff. I don't mind that. But I do tend to get weirdly invested in research and Getting Shit Right. I'm kind of OCD about it. IT IS FUN, THOUGH. :D

I am really glad you're on my flist because it reminds me that I have kindred fangirls out there! Also, maps are awesome, I draw them all the time if a fic takes place somewhere a lot. XD

It's also good to know that Erik and Charles were life ruiners for someone else's weekend because I might've written a 18k fairytale au -- yesterday.

:D :D I am seriously OCD when it comes to research, ask my beta, I have literally driven her to tell me when even a single thing may read a bit off, or I've cocked something up, or Just This Once I've decided to cut a corner and not bother to triple-check something, she'd be all over that, because she knows what I'm like and she knows I'd eat myself up inside for not Doing It Right.

LIFE RUINERS, THE TWO OF THEM. :/ But I am TERRIBLY EXCITED to read that, bb! *______*

HAHAHAHA! Now that is dedication to one's craft. Think of it as world building and not a descent into madness.

I rather tend to go overboard on research on any one of my stories, but I am beginning to suspect that this will take the biscuit.

That is a good way of thinking about it! :D I can only imagine what I'm going to come up with next, considering where I'm planning to take this.

I AM HAVING THE MOST FUN EVER WRITING THIS, TRUFAX.

It's highly unlikely this will be finished any time soon, at the rate it's going. BUT, barring any major unheavals/distractions, I will be writing this story for the foreseeable future, until the words stop coming if I've anything to say about it, so. PROGRESS.

I AM THAT INDEED, HO YUS. You know me well, bb. ♥

...THREE AND A HALF HOURS, THOUGH. FOR REAL. This is draft #7. WHY, BRAIN.

On the other hand, I now know the house layout by heart, which should make writing actual scenes in it easier. So, you know. Success!! /0\
