sirona_fics: (a summer's day)
Okay, enough depressing shit for now or I will just curl in a ball and cry all day, and it's just too much at the mo especially on top of getting my period and getting depressed anyway.

SO. Stuff that made me smile today, v. 2

1) IF HARRY POTTER WAS AN ANIME, which is seriously one of THE BEST THINGS I'VE SEEN FOR AGES.

2) Alex O'Lough on set looking dusty and grimy and DELICIOUS )

3) [livejournal.com profile] delicatale, for making me all warm and fuzzy by suggesting we write Steve + baby for fun. It's been ages since I've written anything just for fun, what with the 20K big bang, and then Charles and Erik whacking me over the head, and other Long And Complicated stories wanting out. This is pure indulgence.

4) This pic from today's PostSecret post )

5) People being awesome. Aka [livejournal.com profile] help_yca, an auction to help the charity which helps Young Chicago Authors, a program whose mission is to "transform the lives of young people by cultivating their voices through writing, publication, and performance education.". It makes me feel glad to be human when there are people like this in the world. I'm offering a fic each for the two highest bidders. My thread it here.

6) MY INNER POLITICS GEEK, LET ME SHOW IT YOU )

7) Downloaded the latest episode of Suits and all of the new Torchwood eps!! \0/ OOOH AWESOME TV NOM NOM.

8) The weather is actually okay for a change, and I have a whole (rest of) Sunday to enjoy it! French windows are thrown wide open and baby Nicky is snoozing on the sofa looking adorable. There's lots of mum's aubergine moussaka left over (mmm) and dad's going to carve up a watermellon for later. What's not to like?

Okay, so this is extremely odd even for me, but this kind of really strick me for some reason. And I know nothing about this man, never even heard of him before in my life prior to today, but I can't help but feel that a bright light has gone out of the world all the same. He was possessed of all the delightful British excentricity I so adore, and it just made me smile and think how much I miss that place.

So. In case anyone wants to read a sharp, witty portrayal of an ordinary man, who was nevertheless quite extraordinary in a way only human beings can be, here it is. Kudos goes to [livejournal.com profile] alwaysaddled for finding it and sharing it! (Obituary in the NY Times.)

A life extraordinary )

May he rest in peace. Also, I've had to resist tagging this post as #madmanwithabox, which should speak of how much I loved the man's little quirks.

THIS. Just... THIS. I have no words for how much I adore the British press.

Also: CONGRATULATIONS ENGLAND, NEW TWENTY20 CRICKET WORLD CHAMPIONS!!! *glomps*

EDIT @AURRAI: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! AUSTRALIA GETTING THRASHED IS EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING TO ME.

No, wait.

Wow, so - a Tory + Lib Dem coalition, huh? Well, I guess - good luck, David Cameron, Britain's brand-spanking-new PM! You're well gonna need it, I reckon! I do hope he does make Nick Clegg the Deputy PM. It ain't gonna be easy for the two parties to get their differences sorted out and come to an agreement. I don't agree with a lot of the Tories' policies, but I will be very curious to see what compromises Cameron & Clegg come up with in the coming weeks.

I have work tomorrow, but I can tell even now (11.15pm) that I'm gonna spend most of the night watching BBC News online. Sigh.
