Today is my darling

laria_gwyn's birthday, you guys!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOVE! She is such a wonderful, enthusiastic person, always so generous with her time; she has made this writing thing an absolute joy, knowing I can always go to her for help, whether reassurance or brainstorming or plot wrangling or actual text wrangling. And so I wanted to do a little something for her, just to say I LOVE YOU, BABY, YOU ARE WONDERFUL AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'D DO WITHOUT YOU. <3333 This is that little something.

She asked for Darcy/Bucky, because we seem to be two of the few people who ship it. This is a follow-up side story in the A little bit of your taste (in my mouth) 'verse, set about a month after that story ended. It's... probably not what she expected, but this hit as I was contemplating the prompt she gave me: an intimate moment between them. I... actually have no idea what this is, or how it happened. One minute I was watching Iron Man 2, after watching Captain America the other day, and the next I had... this.

Which is basically 3,700 words of how Howard Stark went from Captain America's Howard Stark to the one Tony grew up with. And a possible explanation for Tony's Mom not taking more of an interest in her son. And Tony coping with the parents he's been saddled with. With bonus appearances from Peggy Carter, Dummy and, eventually, Steve himself.

Anyway. Seriously, I do not even know anymore. Contains Howard/Steve (one-sided), Howard/Maria, hints of Steve/Peggy and Tony/Steve. And defies rational explanation for its existence. But it's something I've been thinking about for a while, and it wanted out. I should point out that all knowledge I have of the characters was gained from watching the films.

Warning for parenting failure (The Starks), angst, and the fact that understanding why something happens doesn't mean that you can fix it. I like to think that it ends on a positive note, though.

Summary Sherlock gets dragged by John to Harry and Clara's ultrasound appointment. Expecting to be bored out of his mind, he falls to his usual hobby of detection. His attention is captured by a reconciled couple who are expecting their second child, but it's not hard to work out that things between them are not going all that swimmingly.
Notes: It hit me today that Sherlock is only half an inch shorter than Steve, and I wondered what Danny might make of it if he happened to see it while he was on holiday to London with a pregnant Rachel. And then Sherlock kind of took over.

And that scene came on, and all I could think about was what Steve would be feeling if it had been him walking away from Danny's house, the future sparkling with potential, and not been able to sleep before he talked to his beloved again.
