Okay, so this is extremely odd even for me, but this kind of really strick me for some reason. And I know nothing about this man, never even heard of him before in my life prior to today, but I can't help but feel that a bright light has gone out of the world all the same. He was possessed of all the delightful British excentricity I so adore, and it just made me smile and think how much I miss that place.

So. In case anyone wants to read a sharp, witty portrayal of an ordinary man, who was nevertheless quite extraordinary in a way only human beings can be, here it is. Kudos goes to [livejournal.com profile] alwaysaddled for finding it and sharing it! (Obituary in the NY Times.)

A life extraordinary )

May he rest in peace. Also, I've had to resist tagging this post as #madmanwithabox, which should speak of how much I loved the man's little quirks.
